In this modern competitive world, everyone seems to be struggling and maintaining their financial statuses and worth. It is, however, not so easy to be successful if you have funds and you want to make worthy investments. Surely, the decisions of investors investing in specific businesses, stocks or projects cannot be always right.

What is Risk?

Risk is a doubt or uncertainty related to your investments that has the capability to negatively affect your financial worth. Anytime you invest your funds into something, there is a risk, more or less, that you might not get your money back - that the investment may fail.

For example, your investment value might increase or decrease due to market conditions (market risk). Stocks, bonds, mutual funds and exchange-traded funds can lose value, even all their value, if market conditions get bad.

Risk Taker or Risk Averse?

It is a well-known statement that:

                       “High Risk yields High Return”

In order to be successful in getting higher returns and to increase worth, investors have to learn to invest by taking risks but not to be too much risk-takers. It also means not to be too much greedy and not to make decisions recklessly for higher returns, it can be defenseless.

Investors who are reluctant to take risks, that is, they are risk-averse, their priority is to avoid losses as much as possible. In this way, they might miss the opportunity of getting potential returns due to their hesitation of investing in certain businesses or projects.

Moreover, investors are influenced by their psychological biases. These biases get converted into their behaviors due to which they can take sub-optimal decisions.
